Self-Care Sunday
Sunday evenings are for me-time.
They’re reserved for bubbles baths, Etta James, dancing candles and a little introspection. I also reserve Sunday nights to plan out my week ahead but I made a hard effort to take time to relax and take care of my physical self.
Here are a list of my Sunday kind of loves:
Bubble Bath - I don’t make my baths too hot because otherwise I’m overheating after ten minutes (so watch the temp). I use a lavender scented bubble bath (I like Allafia Bubble Bath - Lavender - $11) and five drops of Aveda’s Beautifying composition oil for an aromatic bath (sign up for the free Birthday gift w/ Aveda to get a free small one!) Tip: use can use this oil for you hair, face and body. Take a few drops in your hands, hold under your nose and breathe in deep for spa-worth aromatherapy at home.
‘The Bubbliest Bath’ Playlist - As long as you like the sounds of old soul, bluesey romance and a dash of heartbreak, this little playlist I curated is for you.
Candle - Whatever you got, as long as it glows, grab it!
Face Mask - Depending on whether I’m going for moisture or acne-overhaul, I choose a couple different face masks. The one I’m wearing in this photo is one of my go-tos for breakouts: Kate Somerville EradiKate Mask (warning: it is not cheap but this stuff has lasted me forever and I swear it’s the only thing that works). For hydration and relaxation, I’ve really enjoyed the Rich Hydrating Face Sheets Trader Joe’s ($1.99). And for something that wakes you up, try the Lush Cup O’ Coffee Mask ($11.95).
Book, Journal or Planner - Depending on whether the goal of your bath to read, think or plan, grab a little something to bring in there with you (or if you’re really stressed, just lay back and let the water envelope you).
Self-help recommendation: Rising Strong - Brené Brown.
Fiction recommendation: The Husband’s Secret - Liane Moriarty.
My favorite journal: (I’ve filled 7 of these since 2013; it’s small so I take it with me everywhere: Moleskine Reporter.
Breathe - Relax, breathe, feel gratitude for your day. Name something you’re grateful for and something you’re proud of yourself for that day. Write it down maybe. Stay in there as long as you need and take it all in.
